Johannes meintjes
1923 - 1980
His approach in his paintings was blatantly non-conformist.
The colour sense of Irma Stern and the compositions of Maggie Laubser opened a new world. His work was still dreamy and expressionistic. He concentrated on street scenes but soon gave way to more subjective portraits of melancholy youths with slender, sensitive hands and personal symbols in the form of romantic birds and flowers. He was unusually sensitive and gifted.
